Fire Ravages Hawthorne Home
Fire consumed a Hawthorne home Wednesday morning. An elderly couple got out OK. So did their dog, who was rescued and returned to them. Firefighters found the 2½-story Washington Avenue residence fully involved around 11 a.m. Two alarms on arrival became three bells a little over a half-hour later. The floors collapsed around noontime, requiring heavy equipment to help firefighters douse flame pockets. A Bergen County condo owner taking out the trash recently got a frightful scare: On top of the garbage bin was a 10-foot-long snake. The live but lethargic python had a fresh wound on its head. A Passaic woman who made headlines when her SUV plowed into the front of a Bronx gas station convenience store went on a rampage at a Hawthorne 7-Eleven that continued at police headquarters, authorities said Wednesday. Police were called after Santa Moya, 23, stole cigarettes from the Goffle Road store and a clerk tried to stop her, Detective Lt. Matthew Hoogmoed said. Police: Bichon Frisé Breaks Loose, Killed By Pit Bull On Glen Rock Street
A pit bull killed a Bichon Frisé who’d broken loose while being walked on a Glen Rock street, authorities said. The plume-tailed toy dog slipped his harness while being walked by a young boy on Dean Street, Police Chief Dean Ackermann. As the boy ran home to get his help, a pit bull being walked by a 69-year-old man coming from the opposite direction grabbed hold of the other dog, the chief said. Deer With Plastic Pumpkin Stuck To Head Rescued In Upper Saddle River
Recent reports of a deer roaming Upper Saddle River with a plastic pumpkin stuck to its head turned out to be true, said authorities who rescued the crippled creature on Tuesday. TYCO Animal Control officers based in Ho-Ho-Kus came to town and coordinated efforts with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the New Jersey Division of Fish & and Wildlife to rescue the young deer, Police Chief Patrick Rotella said.
