A Union County parolee who was nabbed by Lyndhurst police after a months-long armed robbery spree of liquor and convenience stores in two states -- including one in which he fired a handgun -- was convicted by federal jurors in Newark of all 10 counts against him. A Bronx man is headed to federal prison for 15 years without parole for beating and kidnapping a 70-year-old Paterson bodega owner at gunpoint. Maurice Cottman, 42, was sentenced to the plea-bargained term in U.S. District Court in Newark on Tuesday, March 29. Cottman must serve it out because there's no parole in the federal prison system. UPDATE: A deportee who snuck back into the U.S. and was living illegally in Paterson was sentenced Tuesday to 95 months in federal prison for raping a 15-year-old city girl. Juan Carlos Morales-Pedraza, a 35-year-old Mexican citizen who was born in Ecuador, had been deported in 2010, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said. An ex-con from Edgewater is headed to federal prison for 10 years for laundering more than $850,000 in drug money. Bobbie L. Henderson III, 36, was living in the St. Moritz high-rise off Gorge Road when he conspired with others to launder what he thought were proceeds from drug sales, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. Henderson was charged in Pennsylvania five years ago with fighting with police who took him into custody after he crashed his car in the middle of a highway and left it there. A bus driver who served as finance officer for a North Jersey transportation workers union admitted in federal court Tuesday that he swiped $117,000 of the local’s money. Angel L. Garcia, 57, of Tampa, FL, pleaded guilty by videoconference to embezzling from the operating account of the Amalgamated Transit Workers Union Local 1614 in Sussex County.
