Harmful Algae Bloom Halts Paddle Boating In Somerset County Park
Paddle boating has been put on hold due to the presence of harmful age blooms in a Somerset County park, authorities said. The Somerset County Park Commission said paddle boats are closed until further notice at Powder Mill Pond in Colonial Park. Exposure to harmful algae blooms can cause various illnesses including vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, seizures, permanent short term memory loss, or death, when consumed at high levels, according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Science. There is no timetable for when paddle boating will resume.

Officials Boost Police Presence At Somerset County Park
A popular Somerset County park will see an increased police presence after illegal activity including swimming, drinking and littering put the its fate in jeopardy. While the Somerset County Park Commission initially planned on restricting access to Washington Valley Park, local officials and authorities came up with a plan to keep them open. A petition launched by local residents to keep that park open had garnered more than 2,600 signatures as of Tuesday morning. Authorities are cracking down on illegal activity at a Somerset County park 40 summonses for illegal drinking and swimming were issued, and two people were arrested on drug charges there.
