Lifelong New Jersey resident John Komanitsky died on March 7, 2021. He was 29 years old. John was born in Plainfield but lived in Bradley Beach for the last five years, his obituary says. He was a motorcycle mechanic for Indian Motorcycle in Neptune, and enjoyed riding, working on cars and being with his son, according to his obit. NJ Man, 19, Charged With Animal Cruelty After Starving Pets To Death, Prosecutor Says
A 19-year-old Union County man is facing criminal charges of animal cruelty after severely neglecting three pets, two of who died, authorities said. Plainfield police were called to Rock Avenue on reports of a suspicious item dumped on the side of the road, where they found the body of a severely emaciated pit bull inside of a plastic bag on Nov. 3, Union County Assistant Prosecutor Patricia Cronin said. A 51-year-old man has been arrested in a 2019 hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 12-year-old boy in New Jersey, authorities said. Bryant D. Eggleston, of Plainfield, was behind the wheel of a white 2013 Hyundai Sonata when he struck the boy on Oct. 8, 2019 on Valley Road in Watchung, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said. A woman was killed and a man critically injured in a double-shooting in Union County earlier this week, authorities said. Johanna Cordova-Salazar, 29, of Plainfield was fatally shot near Lee Place and South Second Street around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. The woman was at a Plainfield bar when she met two men, who agreed to drive her to Irvington around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 26, North Plainfield Police Lt. Edward Sinker said. A 61-year-old van driver died and 14 passengers were injured in a crash Wednesday morning on Route 24 in Morris County, authorities confirmed. A 2000 Ford E350 passenger van was heading eastbound when it veered off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned around 10:15 a.m. near milepost 2, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said. A Plainfield man walked into a convenience store with a gunshot wound then collapsed on the ground Saturday night, authorities said Monday. The 28-year-old man went into a Route 22 store in Green Brook Township, told the clerk that he had been shot, then collapsed just after 11 p.m., Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. The Warren County community is mourning the death of Nikal Jones, who was shot and killed in Wilson Borough, PA on Sept. 25. He was 18. Jones was born in Plainfield and grew up in Phillipsburg, where he played basketball, football and ran track in high school, his obituary says.
