North Jersey Boy Struck By Car Sees Overwhelming Community Support
As Stefan Wiklinski remains on the mend after being struck by a car in Old Tappan while riding his bike, residents of the borough are showing they have his back. A fundraiser has been created to support Wiklinski's family with medical expenses following the Sunday, June 11 incident. As of Tuesday, June 20, more than $60,000 has been raised. Wiklinski, an eighth grader who was set to graduate from Charles DeWolf Middle School, suffered a brain injury and remains under sedation. Support is quickly rising for a Hunterdon County High School student-athlete battling an aggressive form of bone cancer. Joey Edwards, a junior at North Hunterdon High School in Clinton, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in February, according to a GoFundMe launched by his aunt, Amy DiPaolo, and several other loved ones on his behalf. At 18 years old, Hagr Elweshahy was appointed to the Linden Zoning Board this week. The high school senior's new role makes her the youngest Zoning Board member in city history. Elweshahy was appointed to the Board by Linden Mayor Derek Armstead at the Tuesday night, Feb. 21 City Council meeting. NJ Star Athlete Found Dead In Central PA Dorm Room
A 21-year-old star athlete from New Jersey was found dead in his dorm room on Saturday, Oct. 8, according to York College of Pennsylvania school officials. Andrew "Drew" Ruehlicke, of Mullica Hill, "was found unresponsive in his residence hall room earlier today and was later deemed deceased," Richard T. Satterlee, Ph.D, Dean of Student Development and Campus Life told Daily Voice in an email on Monday, Oct. 10. Tufts Lacrosse Player From Hudson Valley Dies In Hot Dog Eating Contest
A college student from the Hudson Valley has died from injuries in a hot dog eating contest on Saturday, Oct. 16. Rockland County resident Madie Nicpon, a 2019 graduate of Suffern High School, was a junior at Tufts University in Massachusetts. She fell unconscious during an off-campus charity fundraiser and died at a Boston hospital the following day, WCVB, ABC 5 in Boston reports. Hackensack Centenarian Survives COVID, Calendar
Mary Damino of Hackensack not only survived the coronavirus – she’s lived to see 100. Family members, close friends and staff members at the Teaneck Nursing and Rehab Center joined Damino for a triple-digit birthday celebration on Thursday. There were flowers, a cake and champagne to mark the occasion. The youngest of five children, Damino was born on Huyler Street at a time when the life expectancy for women was a little under 62 years, nearly two years longer than men.
