Officials Boost Police Presence At Somerset County Park
A popular Somerset County park will see an increased police presence after illegal activity including swimming, drinking and littering put the its fate in jeopardy. While the Somerset County Park Commission initially planned on restricting access to Washington Valley Park, local officials and authorities came up with a plan to keep them open. A petition launched by local residents to keep that park open had garnered more than 2,600 signatures as of Tuesday morning. NJ Mayors Want Murphy To Reopen Indoor Malls, Shopping Centers
A group of New Jersey mayors have formed a coalition in hopes of persuading Gov. Phil Murphy to reopen indoor malls. Woodbridge Mayor John E. McCormac is helming the coalition of mayors, all of whom have large indoor mall and shopping centers in their municipalities. All New Jersey malls and shopping centers closed on March 17 due to the coronavirus outbreak. On May 18, the state allowed non-essential retail stores to offer curbside pickup. 19 Fatality Announced In Bridgewater
Officials in Bridgewater on Sunday announced the township's first coronavirus-related fatality. As of Sunday, there were 51 presumed positive patients in Somerset County out of the more than 1,900 in the state. There were 20 coronavirus related deaths in New Jersey as of Sunday. "We must treat all of our neighbors like family now," Mayor Matthew Moench said, while stressing the importance of social distancing. "Everyone has a role to play."
