52 Arrested In 'Elaborate' Cockfighting Ring In South Jersey: Police
More than 50 people were arrested after police broke up a large cockfighting ring in Atlantic County, authorities said. Galloway Township police executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of South Bremen Avenue on Saturday, Mar. 9, the department said in a news release. When officers arrived, a large group of people were there and many tried to run away before they were detained. Investigators found an "elaborate cockfighting operation" that included a fighting ring, seating for spectators, and several cockfighting kits. A 30-year-old New Jersey man will be spending several years in state prison for beating a cat so badly the animal had to be euthanized and for holding a gun to a person's head and cocking it when he tried walking away. Michael Ciarla, of Galloway Township, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Bernard E. NJ Woman Who Abandoned Dogs Tethered To Trees Faces Charges In 3 Towns: Prosecutor
A South Jersey woman is facing charges in three different towns after abandoning several dogs in a forest and paying for parvo treatment using a stolen credit card, authorities said. Trouble for 45-year-old Jodi Wozniak began on Sept. 16, when five German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois were found in the woods near N. Pitney Road in Galloway, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said. Some of the dogs were tethered to a tree and others were inside kennels with no food or water, police said. Human Remains Found In South Jersey Woods
Human remains were found earlier this week in a wooded area in South Jersey, authorities said. A nearby resident stumbled upon the skeletal remains believed to be of a male, in the woods, according to Galloway police. The call came in about 8:40 a.m. Monday at 187 South Pomona Road in Galloway Township, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said. An autopsy has been completed and the results are pending.
