Fourteen children were hospitalized with breathing problems after being exposed to higher-than-normal levels of chlorine during summer camp at Drew University Monday, July 18, officials said. The juveniles, participating in a soccer program for children ages 10 to 17, reported shortness of breath, difficulty speaking between breaths, nausea and general airway issues while in a pool at the Madison university around 12:20 p.m., Morris County officials said. Fire crews in Morris County rushed to douse a three-car blaze that nearly spread to a fourth vehicle Tuesday evening. The fire broke out off of North Passaic Avenue in Chatham shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to the Florham Park Police Department and Office of Emergency Management. Chatham and Florham Park fire departments arrived at the scene and confirmed that the blaze had spread to two adjacent cars. A firefighter was hurt while battling a third-alarm strip mall blaze in Parsippany overnight Tuesday. The fire broke out at Green Hill Plaza on Parsippany Road around 12:45 a.m., according to the Parsippany Police Department. An advanced life support ambulance was called to the scene after part of the building collapsed and a firefighter was injured, initial and unconfirmed reports said. Fire Crews Douse Morris County Apartment Blaze
Fire crews from several towns were quick to douse the roof of a Morris County apartment that went up in flames Monday morning, authorities said. The fire broke out at 292 Main St. in Madison around 7:50 a.m., police said in a release. Upon arrival, fire crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building’s roof and requested a second alarm, police said. The fire was doused with mutual aid from the Florham Park Fire Department, Chatham Fire Department, Morris Township Fire Department, and Cedar Knolls Fire Department. One resident was rescued and two police officers were hospitalized Tuesday evening in a three-alarm house fire in Madison, authorities said.
