NJ Triathlete Struck By Car Sees Community Support
Mary Truer was out riding her bicycle when she was hit by a car. Now people in Essex County are coming together to assist her and her family. Truer, a triathlete, will need surgery, said her friend Jonathan Tabuzo, a Bloomfield native, who organized a GoFundMe fundraiser. The money will help Truer and her family during this ordeal, Tabuzo said. As of Monday, May 15, more than $5,700 has been raised. To donate, click here.

NJ Detective Required To Sell Handguns Later Reported One As Stolen: Prosecutor
A 47-year-old police detective from the Jersey Shore was required to sell handguns due to a restraining order, authorities said. And in 2022, Matthew Curtis signed paperwork saying he did, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Kendall Howard was arrested Wednesday morning by Newark police on two attempted murder charges, sources with direct knowledge of the incident say. East Orange Pair Charged In Newark Man's Murder: Prosecutor
Two men have been charged with murder and one with various related offenses in last month's shooting death of a 29-year-old Newark man, authorities said. Jamaal Mahorn, 37, and Buddy Randolph, 40, both of East Orange, were arrested in the death of Khalif Ligon, 29, on Sept. 7, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said. Police called to a shooting on the 100 block of Roseville Avenue in Newark around 1:50 a.m. found Ligon suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. A pair of car burglars caught mid-act by officers were found with a loaded magazine and handgun, police in Essex County said. Charles Pugsley, 23, of Newark, and Daniel Gomez, 26, of the Bronx, were standing next to an open car door outside of a Verona house around 5 a.m. Thursday, June 30 when the officers pulled up, Verona police said. A search of the suspect vehicle turned up a loaded handgun under the driver's seat, and a magazine that contained 30 rounds of ammunition inside one of Pugsley's bags, officers said. North Jersey Man Missing For Week+ Might Be Wearing Kilt, Family Says
Police in Essex County are seeking the public's help in locating a man missing for more than a week. George Kovacs, who is known to wear a kilt, left his home in Bloomfield on June 8 around 4:30 p.m. and hasn't been heard from or seen since, local police said citing his family. A New Jersey woman was beaten by her son-in-law over the course of two days before her body was found, NJ.com reports citing police papers. James J. 'Sopranos' Prequel Films At Old School North Jersey Ice Cream Shop
Filming for "The Sopranos" prequel starring Michael Gandolfini has resumed in Essex County. The production company for "The Many Saints of Newark" was granted permits to film in Bloomfield, closing several streets that have been transformed into a snowy, 1960s day. The movie halted filming due to COVID-19, pushing the release date off until March 2021. Holsten's on Broad Street was closed Thursday for filming, but reopened Friday. A wanted Newark man tried to avoid detection by switching seats with his passenger when a Carlstadt police officer stopped him for making an illegal turn, authorities said. The silver Nissan that illegally turned right off northbound Route 120 into the Hampton Inn parking lot also had tinted windows and an obstructed license plate when Officer Matthew Bartlett stopped it, Police Chief Thomas Berta said Monday.
