Two Trapped, Killed In Fierce Passaic Apartment Fire
Two people were killed in a ferocious garden apartment fire in Passaic on Sunday. The fire apparently broke out on the first floor in back of the two-story Spruce Street building and instantly spread to the second floor and a cockloft -- trapping the victims -- shortly before 9:30 a.m. March 3. A vehicle just outside the brick structure also caught fire. A battalion chief reported heavy fire and smoke right from the get-go. Firefighters On Rescue Mission Airlifted After Going Over Falls In Passaic River
Two Clifton firefighters on a rescue mission in the Passaic River were themselves rescued by a New Jersey State Police helicopter Wednesday afternoon after their boat went over the falls at the Dundee Dam. Both were taken to an area hospital with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening following the treacherous late-afternoon operation on June 28. Vehicles Incinerated, Little Falls Firefighters Prevent Far Worse Damage
What could've become a far worse situation was prevented after a group of parked vehicles caught fire in Little Falls. Citizens can thank a group of township firefighters. Flames incinerated the vehicles at the Overlook at Great Notch corporate center off eastbound Route 46 in the late afternoon Friday, May 12 "This could have been so much worse," Mayor James Belford Damiano said, "but the Fire Department once again saved the day." Passaic House Fire Doused
Friends said a woman and her teenage children lost most of their belonging when a July 4th weekend fire damaged their Passaic home. Firefighters quickly got to the Third Street address off Essex Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. and had the fire under control in barely a half-hour. They limited the fire damage to the first floor, where the blaze apparently began, and the second floor, which sustained heavy smoke damage. No injuries were reported. A passenger was hospitalized after an SUV toppled a telephone pole in Clifton. The Acura MDX also took down a tree and strung wires across Van Houten Avenue outside Van Houten Village at Mohegan Street around 5 p.m. Sunday, March 13. The victim complained of leg and ankle pain. An ex-con with a long criminal history was drunk and carrying a gun and illegal drugs when he was ejected from his motorcycle in Clifton, authorities said. A city police officer was on patrol when he saw Delshon Coleman, 36, of Passaic drive erratically before being thrown from his 2008 Suzuki after coming to an abrupt stop on Paulison Avenue near Madison Avenue shortly after 9 p.m., Sgt. Unidentified Man's Body Found In Clifton Garage Fire
Authorities were trying to identify a man whose body was found following a garage fire in Clifton. The man's body was found in a car parked in the detached garage behind a 2½-story home at 44 Seger Ave. Wednesday, they said. Firefighters doused the heavily-involved blaze, which was called in at 5:42 p.m. No other injuries were reported. The cause hadn't officially been determined, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Clifton Police Chief Thomas Rinaldi and Clifton Fire Chief Frank Prezioso said in a brief release. An investigation was continuing.

Fire Destroys Hunterdon County Bagel Shop
Fire consumed a Hunterdon County bagel shop and deli overnight Tuesday. Firefighters responding to a 1:22 a.m. call found a fully-involved blaze, with flames shooting through the roof, at the Bagelsmith Food Store and Deli on Route 173 in Union Township, just off Route 78. Arson investigators arrested a 25-year-old Clifton man Thursday and charged him with a pair of overnight garbage can fires on the same block, one of which spread to an adjoining home. Mario A.
