City council unanimously approved a resolution to award a $328,000 contract to East Coast Falcons. The falcons will be out at 8 a.m. or earlier to keep gulls from flocking to breakfast leftovers. The anti-gull program will cover the downtown district and the 34th Street business district, along with several other public spaces. Ocean City began the falcon pro…

State authorities announced a bunch of new election fraud charges on Wednesday against Paterson’s council president along with allegations against his wife and campaign manager, as well. Alex Mendez, 48, has been awaiting trial in a case, stemming from 2020 council races, that has undergone a series of one delay after another. The contests were conducted entirely by mail-in ballots as COVID was spreading. The new charges involved what the attorney general described on Oct. 25 as a hare-brained plot to steal ballots from mailboxes outside people’s homes, toss out those that didn’t vote for…

Newly-released bodycam footage shows a Jersey City councilwoman at the center of a recent hit-and-run case trying to plead her way out of having her car towed last year. The footage released by Hudson County View shows Amy DeGise on the verge of tears as her Nissan Rogue was loaded onto a tow truck in Hoboken. An officer tells her that the car had been struck by a tractor trailer partially because she was in a no stopping/standing zone, and then that her SUV was being impounded since it had been unregistered since 2019. "I have a family member that's an officer I have their card on me, if…

Ban Of Lukoil Stations In NJ's Largest City Only Hurts Small Businesses: Report
Lukoil gas stations are officially suspending from operating in New Jersey's largest city, but the franchise owners say the move is only harmful to small businesses. Newark's City Council on Wednesday, March 2 voted in favor of the resolution, in opposition of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Lukoil — headquartered in Russia and apparently owned by oligarchs — has two locations in Newark, both on McCarter Highway. A franchise owner of one of the stations told CBS News that while he stands with Ukraine, he's "confused how shutting down an American-based small business owner is sending a mes…

A missing 20-year-old Paterson woman was home safe, relieved family members friends said Wednesday morning. "This is what community looks like," wrote Zellie Thomas, a leader of the Paterson BLM group, following the return of Nyrah Barner Curry. Both her father and brother confirmed that Nyrah was back after they and others spoke at a City Council meeting about her disappearance, asking why they -- and not Paterson officials -- had to get the word out about her disappearance despite a missing persons report. Thomas didn't elaborate on why Curry was gone and where she'd been. Family membe…

Hackensack government went on alert after an elected official was accused of escorting a relative he knew had tested positive for the coronavirus into City Hall even though the building had been closed to the public. The alleged Dec. 29 incident involving Deputy Mayor David Sims raised concerns over infection, although no one who was at City Hall has reported contracting COVID-19 since then. Although the person with Sims wasn’t publicly identified, various city sources said it was a female family member who doesn’t live with him who needed a document notarized.
