16 Indicted In Crime Ring Targeting Asian-American Jewelers Across Mid-Atlantic: Feds
An indictment of 16 members of a violent mid-Atlantic crime ring has been unsealed and the federal agencies are naming names. Of the 16, eight of the alleged crime ring members were arrested in the morning on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, police in Fairfax County, Virginia announced later that day. They were all arrested in connection to a violent crime spree that took place between Jan. 7, 2022, through Jan. 27, 2023. The crime ring members were all from Maryland and the District of Columbia. A fugitive member of the Crips who was wanted for attempted murder in New York City was nabbed by Mahwah police on Route 17, authorities said. Two men were busted by Passaic County sheriff's detectives with a variety of street and prescription drugs for sale following complaints from neighborhood residents and business owners, authorities said. The Bureau of Narcotics investigators watched as Darrel Battle, 50, and Corrie Brown, 27, slung drugs from a black Hyundai sedan outside Battle's Main Street apartment Thursday, Aug. 24, Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnick said. An 80-year-old resident was hospitalized and her ex-con son arrested as firefighters doused a smoky Tuesday morning blaze that ravaged their Rochelle Park home. Carmine Covino, 55, was taken into custody after he interfered with responders trying to take his mother, Concetta, to Hackensack University Medical Center after she suffered smoke inhalation, Rochelle Park Police Lt. Lyndhurst PD: Fleeing Motorcyclist From Lodi, 19, Captured Carrying Drugs, Knife
A motorcyclist who tried to give a Lyndhurst police officer the slip was captured following a brief chase, authorities said. Jaydan Tejada, 19, of Lodi, was carrying a large kitchen knife, a ski mask, and assorted drugs -- crystal meth and psilocybin mushrooms, as well as THC candies and vaporizers -- following the pursuit, Detective Lt.
