Chicken Waste Spill Causes HazMat Situation Along South Jersey Highway
A trailer hauling chicken waste products crashed, spilling its contents all over Route 55 and causing a HazMat situation in Gloucester County on Monday, Feb. 27. The northbound side of the roadway was closed in Deptford from mile marker 59.2 to the Route 42 interchange following the 9 a.m. crash. The roadway had reopened as of 1:45 p.m., but crews were still on scene for cleanup. HazMat crews, the New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, and multiple fire departments were on scene. Environmental services were notified and were monitoring the incident. No injuries were reported.

Man Falls Down Elevator Shaft Prompting

Investigation In Somerset County
Firefighters rescued a 38-year-old man who fell down an elevator shaft Thursday, Feb. 2 in Somerset County, authorities said. Responders found the Watchung man stuck in a building on Mettlers Road around 2:30 p.m. in Franklin Township, township police Lt. Vincent T. Wilson said. The victim was removed but had suffered multiple injuries, and was taken to the hospital by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital BLS and ALS. The building was ordered to be evacuated by the Franklin Township fire marshal and fire inspectors and the building will be closed pending an OSHA investigation.

Authorities have revealed the manner of death for the 27-year-old dad who fell to his death from an escalator at a New York Jets-Pittsburgh Steelers game last October. The manner of death for Monaca's Dalton Ryan Keane was ruled accidental, Pittsburgh police said citing the Allegheny County Medical Examiner. A trucking company employee survived after being crushed between a vehicle and a loading dock at a shopping center in Hackensack, authorities said. The 59-year-old worker from New York survived lower body injuries that weren't considered life-threatening in the Thanksgiving morning mishap on Hackensack Avenue, said Police Capt. A Jersey Shore fire department is mourning the loss of their chief. Keyport Fire Department Chief Tim Pfleger, 32, died over the weekend, the department announced on Facebook.
