A raccoon in Hunterdon County tested positive for rabies on Wednesday, Oct. 16, authorities said. The racoon was in the area of Ramsey Road in Clinton Township, the Department of Health said. Area residents who may have had contact with this raccoon any time between Friday, Sept. 27 and Friday, Oct. 11 should notify their primary care physician immediately or the Hunterdon Medical Center Emergency Room to discuss concerns, the Department of Health said. Sussex County Man Airlifted After ATV Crash:

A 21-year-old Sussex County man had to be airlifted to a hospital after an ATV crash on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 19, authorities said. At 10:57 p.m., police responded to a property on East Shore Culver Road in Frankford Township after a Honda Fortrax ATV entered the roadway, lost directional control and the driver fell from the vehicle, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The driver, a Branchville resident, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, LeBron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Authorities have released details and identified the man killed by police on Saturday, Oct. 19in Burlington County. Officers responding to smoke coming from a Pemberton home on Woodland Avenue around 3:20 p.m., New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. They were notified that a man later identified as Marvin Taylor, 57, had a firearm and was in the backyard. Firefighters are working to contain a 77-acre wildfire in Morris County this weekend. The bodies of two severely burned girls ages 6 and 8 were found at a Newark home following a fire over the weekend, officials said. Witnesses told detectives that there had been a birthday party for one of the girls on the second floor of the home and they'd been playing with fire near a couch in the hallway of the Eckert Street home on Saturday, Oct. 20, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.
