NJ Police Officer Who Once Saved Animals From Fire Retiring After 26 Years
Rafael Burgos' law enforcement career, which was filled with accolades, is coming to an end next month. Burgos will be retiring from the Franklin Borough Police Department on Monday, Nov. 4, after 29 years of service, with the last 26 years spent in Franklin. A walkout ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. at police headquarters at 15 Corkhill Rd. Aside from being a police officer, Burgos was a member of the United States Coast Guard. An Ocean City amusement park is shutting down after creating nearly a century of summer memories for children and families. Mayor Jay Gillian, the owner of Gillian's Wonderland Pier, said he'll terminate the multi-year lease for the theme park in a couple of months. North Jersey Officer Suffers Partial Blindness, Paralysis After Brain Surgery, Campaign Says
Brian Werthmann is in the fight for his life and the community is coming together to help. Werthmann, a sergeant in the Summit Police Department, recently underwent an 8-hour surgery to remove a large acoustic neuroma from his brain. While surgeons were able to successfully remove the tumor from his brain, Werthmann has experienced complications including paralysis on the left side of his body, partial blindness and the inability to walk without assistance.
