At 4:40 a.m., police officers spotted a gray Honda Civic with tinted windows and no front license plate at the Exxon gas station on the 397 Springfield Ave., Newark Public Safety Director Eugene Miranda said. The officers checked the rear plate, P97NUW, and discovered it was fictitious as the suspect drove from the gas station, Miranda said. Man Shot In Newark: Police A man was shot in Newark on the afternoon of Sunday May 26, authorities said. At 1 p.m., police responded to Irvine Turner Boulevard and Marie Place and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He was transported to University Hospital and is in stable condition, Fragé said. The shooting remains under investigation, Fragé said.
