Six Walgreens stores in South Jersey were among 20 nationwide to get fake bomb threats on Thursday, June 28, authorities said. One was in Evesham at 11:35 a.m. when a caller contacted the store on Route 73 reporting an explosive device was inside, Evesham Township police said in a press statement. A pair of South Jersey nursing homes, riddled with poor conditions and alleged Medicaid fraud, have been turned over to the control of an independent receiver, authorities said. The state Comptroller previously suspended the owners of Deptford Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare and Hammonton Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare from New Jersey Medicaid. A tow truck operator was hospitalized after being struck on Interstate 295 in South Jersey by another tow truck while assisting a motorist, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 on I-295 southbound north of Exit 36 (Route 73) in Mount Laurel Township, according to the NJDOT. A 6-year-old boy died after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a South Jersey summer camp, authorities said. The incident happened Monday, June 24 at about 2 p.m. while the child was at Liberty Lake Day Camp at 1195 Florence Columbus Road, according to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Man Fired Shots In South Jersey 'Motel Corridor', Police Say
A Mays Landing man was accused of firing a gun in a South Jersey area with several motels. Desmon Wilson, 23, was arrested on Friday, June 14, the Absecon Police Department said in a news release. Officers responded to a report of fired shots on the Route 30 "motel corridor" just before 10:30 p.m. Police began searching for possible victims in the area. After reviewing surveillance video, Wilson was eventually identified as the suspect and taken into custody. Wilson was charged with several weapons offenses. The National Weather Service is predicting two rounds of thunderstorms in New Jersey and Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 23. The first is expected in the morning northwest of the I-95 corridor through noon, and the second in the afternoon and evening along the Jersey Shore and in South Jersey (see map above).
