Wildfire That Threatened 15 South Jersey Homes Nearly Extinguished, Firefighters Say
A wildfire that threatened more than a dozen homes in Burlington County has been almost completely contained, officials said. About 40 acres burned near Sycamore Avenue in Evesham Township on Wednesday, Oct. 30, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said on Facebook. The fire was 90 percent contained by 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, according to the final update from the NJFFS. There were 15 homes threatened by the wildfire but no one needed to be evacuated. A Rutgers University student from Philadelphia was accused of recording students while they showered, authorities said. A Margate doctor will spend more than a year in prison for his role in a $5 million prescription kickback scheme, authorities said. Brian Sokalsky, 46, was sentenced on Tuesday, Oct. 29 to a year and three months in prison, said Vikas Khanna, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, in a news release.
