At just 14 years old, the Edgewater native was already an activist who was passionate about volunteering and did so often. His most recent volunteer work was at the Leonia Library and at the Bergen County Rowing Academy, developing skills of newcomers at Overpeck Park. Fluent in Farsi, Jahnan was proud of his Persian heritage and was thrilled to visit his parents' native country of Iran this summer for his aunt's wedding. Body Of Paramus Gym Owner, 35, Recovered From Vermont River: State Police A 35-year-old Paramus man's body was believed to have been recovered from a river in Vermont on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 14 after a multi-day search, authorities said. Tuan Baldino was initially reported missing on Saturday, Aug. 10 after swimming in Mad River in the northern part of the state.  The search lasted several days and had to be suspended multiple times due to high and swift water condition, police said. Several Shark Sightings Reported Near Cape May's Coast Several sharks have been spotted off the coast of Cape May in recent weeks, according to reports. A shark was spotted near the beach in Cape May Point at around 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 6abc Action News reported. One beachgoer said the shark was about six feet long. The sighting caused swimmers to run onto the shore and lifeguards kept people out of the water for about a half hour, according to Wildwood Video Archive. NJ Electrical Engineer Nic Fink Breaks 120-Year Record At Paris Olympics Nic Fink, a Morristown native, is an electrical engineer. Oh, and now he's an Olympic medalist. Fink, 31, won the silver medal in the men's 100m breaststroke on Sunday, July 28, missing out on the gold in a photo finish. Fink is the oldest American to be a first-time medal winner in swimming since the 1904 Olympics. And he does that all that while balancing a full-time job as an assistant project manager for an engineering firm in Atlanta, GA. Fink grew up in Morristown and graduated from the Pingry School in Basking Ridge. Following graduation, Fink swam for the University of Georgia. …

High Bacteria Levels Shuts Swimming At NJ Beach For Rest Of Season Swimming along one New Jersey beach has been closed for the rest of the season due to high bacteria levels, officials said. The NJ Department of Environmental Protection said only that a water sample from Beachwood Beach West exceeded the water quality standard. In a statement shared to the Beachwood website, the mayor and council said, "you may still sit and take in the lovely view of the scenery but no one will be permitted to swim."

Divers Recover Body Of Missing Swimmer, 18, From NJ Waters, Police Say The search for a missing swimmer came to a tragic end on Wednesday, June 26 in Passaic County, police said. Divers recovered the body of 18-year-old Eshan Aman Ullah, of Randolph, after he went missing while swimming with three others in the Clinton Reservoir in West Milford Tuesday evening, local police said.
