Husband-Wife Power Couple Just Unseated Incumbents In Small NJ Town
Gregory and Charlyn Martin are officially Carneys Point’s new power couple.
The husband-and-wife team defeated incumbents Wayne D. Pelura and Michelle M. Shaw in the Tuesday, Nov. 4 Carneys Point Township Committee election in Salem County.
Gregory Martin, a truck driver and longtime youth football coach, led with 1,269 votes (25.9%), followed closely by Charlyn Martin, a former Penns Grove councilwoman, with 1,247 votes (25.45%), election data shows. Pelura and Shaw trailed with 1,212 (24.74%) and 1,166 (23.8%) votes, respectively.

Passaic County's shift to the red was only temporary.
One year after voting for President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, Passaic County voted overwhelmingly for Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-NJ, over her Republican opponent Jack Ciattarelli, 57.1% to 42.2% with 94% of the votes reported.
In 2024, Trump defeated Democrat Kamala Harris, 50% to 47%, the first time Passaic County had voted Republican in a presidential election since 1992, as part of the president's better than expected showing throughout the Garden State.

Stephen Colbert, a Montclair resident, announced he is endorsing his "neighbor," Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-NJ, to be the next governor of the Garden State.
"I've made fun of many members of Congress many times for many years for many reasons, but this is an earnest appeal for a leader I respect and admire," Colbert, calling himself a proud New Jersey voter, said on Instagram.

Several New Jersey schools are among the best in the nation, according to new rankings released this week.
U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings, announced its 2026 Best Elementary and Middle Schools list on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The report includes about 47,000 public elementary schools and 23,000 middle schools ranked at the state and district levels, with charter schools evaluated as a separate category, according to the publication.
