A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 22 Wednesday night, Oct. 30 in Branchburg, police said. The 48-year-old Plainfield man was walking in the middle of the highway when he was struck by a white Ford Econoline van in the westbound lanes just past France Drive around 8:30 p.m., Branchburg Police Capt. Edward Edgar said. The pedestrian had been struck near the Red Mill Inn and was found lying face down in the grass median severely injured, Edgar said. A Margate doctor will spend more than a year in prison for his role in a $5 million prescription kickback scheme, authorities said. Brian Sokalsky, 46, was sentenced on Tuesday, Oct. 29 to a year and three months in prison, said Vikas Khanna, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, in a news release. A dog was rescued from an inlet in Cape May County, officials said.
