Thieves Stole NJ Assemblyman's Car While Family Slept, Police Say A Jersey Shore assemblyman's car was stolen by thieves in Hazlet, authorities said. Assemblyman Paul Kanitra, R-Brick Township, said in a Facebook post that his car was taken from his mother-in-law's house in Hazlet just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Kanitra was in Washington, D.C. for his work as the owner of the lobbyist firm Lobbyit.com. Kanitra said the thieves drove up to the home in a stolen white BMW with temporary plates. In October 2023, broke into a Bernards Township home through a rear sliding window and stole a 2023 Mercedes Benz, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald announced. Man Wrote Bad Checks To Steal Vehicle From Central Jersey Dealership, Police Say A Toms River man was accused of using bad checks to steal a vehicle from a Monmouth County dealership, authorities said. Robert Poelstra, 74, was facing two third-degree charges including theft by deception, the Hazlet Police Department said in a news release on Thursday, July 11. A Hazlet detective received "a crucial lead" in the investigation and conducted a stakeout outside an unnamed medical center in Ocean County. Poelstra was arrested there on Wednesday, July 10.  The stolen vehicle was recovered and will be returned to the dealership.  Anyone with information about …

Fleeing Suspected Car Thief 19, Plunges To Death At George Washington Bridge A teenage suspected car thief fleeing police plunged to his death at the George Washington Bridge before dawn Sunday, authorities said. The 19-year-old driver fled from a traffic stop by officers from the NYPD's 52nd Precinct in the Bronx shortly before 1:30 a.m. June 9, they said. The vehicle apparently gave out, at which point the driver bailed and bolted.
