Mail Won’t Be Delivered Thursday, Jan. 9: Here's Why
The United States Postal Service will pause mail delivery and retail services on Thursday, Jan. 9, to honor the life and legacy of former President Jimmy Carter on a National Day of Mourning.
All post office locations will be closed for the day, following an executive order from President Joe Biden directing federal agencies to close as a mark of respect for Carter, the nation’s 39th president.
While regular mail services will be suspended, limited package delivery will continue, the USPS announced.

The longest living president in US history, Jimmy Carter, has died at the age of 100.
The death of the 39th chief executive was announced by the Carter Center.
He died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 29 at his residence in his lifelong hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he was born in October 1924.
