19: Central Jersey School District Reports 23 New Coronavirus Cases
A Central Jersey school district has reported at least 23 new positive coronavirus cases in the past two weeks, officials said. The outbreak has prompted one school within the Middletown Township Public Schools to return to "all-remote" instruction, the district announced in a note to parents. Thompson Middle School, which has suffered nearly one-third of the district's new COVID-19 cases, returned to all-remote learning on Monday due to seven new positive cases, school district officials said. A 17-year-old high school student in New Jersey removed himself from a virtual chemistry class after being asked and subsequently refusing to take down a flag displaying his support for President Trump. Manaquan High School Goes All-Virtual Due To New Coronavirus Cases
With the discovery of three new COVID-19 cases in Manasquan, the school district has opted to keep high school students home for all-virtual learning. Also, SAT and ACT tests have been cancelled at Manasquan for the next two weekends, officials said. Remote learning will be effective until Oct. 18, according to Manasquan Superintendent of Schools Frank Kasyan. Two More Central Jersey School Districts Report Positive Coronavirus Cases
School districts in Middlesex and Monmouth counties have reported new positive cases of COVID-19, authorities said. In-person learning was suspended at Raritan Valley Elementary School in Hazlet due to two unrelated cases, officials said. Neither case was contracted at the school. A pair of positive cases were reported in East Brunswick (one per school), and presumptive positive cases in two others, officials said.
