A stolen luxury SUV that rolled as a good Samaritan chased it had been stolen moments earlier by two teens who'd broken into the owner's Paramus home, authorities said. An auto detailer who was working at the Hasse Avenue home at the time chased the Newark pair Friday afternoon as they sped off in the 2020 X-5, which had been taken from the garage after the pair entered the house and apparently found the keys. UPDATE: An anxious carnival-goer triggered what became a false report of shots fired at a police-sponsored anti-drug event in Paramus over the weekend. Two men -- one of them an off-duty police officer -- got into an argument around 7 p.m. Saturday at the L.E.A.D. carnival on the grounds of the Westfield Garden State Plaza off Route 17, a source with direct knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice. : Garfield Motorcyclist, 57, Killed In Route 17 Crash
A 57-year-old motorcyclist from Garfield was killed in a crash Wednesday night on northbound Route 17 in Paramus, authorities said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred after the rider lost control of his Harley Davidson outside the McDonald's near East Ridgewood Avenue and hit a guardrail shortly before 8 p.m., Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg confirmed.
