A 60-year-old Wayne man chiseled his way into a township fertilizer store before dawn Thursday as an employee watched on surveillance video, said police who then caught the burglar inside. Officers were responding to a burglar alarm shortly before 3 a.m. when the employee of Wayne Wholesale Fertilizer in the township’s Mountain View section called police headquarters and said he’d seen an intruder on video. Two men were charged after vandalizing marked police cars during protests in Newark, authorities said. Eric Stone, 29, of New York and Julio Rodriguez, 27, of New Brunswick vandalized the cars at the First Police Precinct on 17th Avenue in Newark during protests on May 30, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. A homeless man broke in while an elderly Wayne woman was home and was about to burglarize another house when a resident there scared him off, authorities said. Responding Officers Adrian Sulejmani and Colin Bush nabbed Henry Smith III, who'd also burglarized a Haledon home, Wayne Detective Capt. Daniel Daly said Friday. An auto parts store employee who lives in Englewood set a fire at a Fair Lawn home, said authorities who charged him with arson. A Middlesex County resident dragged another woman dating the same man out of her house and began beating her in the street before police came to the victim's rescue, authorities said. Hazlet police arrested Katie Orszulski, 29, of the Parlin section of Old Bridge, after she broke into the victim's home and assaulted her, state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said.
