Campfire Accidentally Sparked Huge Wildfire Near Jersey Shore Neighborhood: Investigators
An illegal and abandoned campfire started a massive wildfire that burned for three days in Ocean County, authorities said. Investigators determined the wildfire was accidentally started by "an unknown person(s) improperly extinguishing a campfire," Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Lakewood Officer Charged With Punching Player, Fracturing Face At Men's Softball Game: Report
A Lakewood police officer was charged with aggravated assault after punching another player in the face and breaking a bone during an adult softball game, NJ Advance Media reported. Patrick Carney, 50, has been charged with aggravated assault and attempt to cause significant bodily injury, the outlet said, quoting a criminal complaint from Berkeley police. The incident stemmed from a physical fight between players on opposing teams, causing the victim to undergo surgery June 15, the outlet said. Berkeley PD: Driver Under Influence In Head-On Crash That Sent 3 To Hospital
A 33-year-old from Berkeley was charged with DWI in connection with a head-on weekend crash that sent the driver of the other car and two children to the hospital. Robert Chelston also was charged with several drug offenses following the crash near Double Trouble Road, south of the Garden State Parkway entrance, Berkeley police announced on Facebook. The driver of the other car was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City with severe injuries, police said.
