Susan Antoon Cousins has touched many people’s lives including those who have known her during the past 30 years at Jersey Shore Fitness Shop, a 24/7 gym in Bradley Beach.

Some may know Cousins, who is a resident of Neptune City, from Hope Integrated Behavioral Healthcare or Vics Italian Restaurant, where she has worked. Others remember Cousins from the years she coached winning field hockey teams.

In August, Cousins became severely ill. She recently was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Cousins is supported by her loving husband, Gordon, and their two teenage sons, Seth and Luke.

The native of West Long Beach, NJ, is a graduate of Southern Regional High School.

"Her spirit and lifelong commitment to her community have only strengthened as she continues to be an inspiration to her family and friends," according to this GoFundMe page. "All of us that know her, know that she is a fighter!"

Money raised will be used for construction and modifications of their home. This will allow a more comfortable environment for Sue and her family. The funds also will be used to help pay costs associated with ALS while Sue is out of work.

Separately, friends of Cousins' family plan a fundraising event that includes food and live entertainment on April 26. For details about that fundraiser, go to this Facebook page.
