These wise words — undeniably true — were written in a GoFundMe launched on behalf of Amanda Foster, a 28-year-old aspiring dental hygienist who was diagnosed with Stage 1 Grade C breast cancer last December.
“Every doctor swore it was nothing to worry about until the biopsy came back,” reads the campaign, which was created by a friend, sharing Foster’s inspiring story of resilience and determination far and wide. “My worst fear came to life… Why me?”
Meanwhile, Foster is a full-time student planning to finish her studies this year, which she says causes insurance difficulties and financial stress while coordinating treatment options.
“…many medicines and procedures I need aren’t covered due to my insurance limitations,” Foster writes. “I became overwhelmed and began to shut down.”
Despite her doubts, Foster is pushing forward and plans to ‘foster’ her future with help from family, friends, and other loved ones.
“God gave me this life to live it,” writes Foster, of Manalapan. “God wouldn’t give me anything I couldn’t handle. Between doctors appointments, genetic testing, fertility counseling, treatment plans, etc. my team at Capital Health has kept me feeling hopeful and strong…Breast cancer will not defeat me, I will defeat it!”
The proceeds from the campaign will be used for Foster’s medical costs and other ongoing expenses. More than $9,000 had been raised as of Tuesday, May 23, nearly doubling its initial $5,000 goal.
“This will not only help with doctor’s appointments, fertility counseling, treatments, but also help [Amanda] with the burden of school tuition,” reads the campaign. Let’s help Amanda FIGHT breast cancer, while getting her DEGREE!”
