The collision happened around 9:46 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Bismarck Street in Manchester Township, according to Police Chief Antonio Ellis.

When officers arrived, they found a white 2017 Chevrolet Equinox overturned in the middle of the road, a blue 2021 Honda Accord smashed in the northwest corner of the intersection, and a gray 2005 Honda Civic off the roadway with heavy front-end damage

According to the investigation, the Chevrolet was heading north on Bismarck Street and drove through the intersection, causing the Honda Accord, which was coming west on Commonwealth Boulevard, to slam into the side of the Chevrolet. The impact launched the Chevrolet into the Honda Civic before the SUV flipped and landed upside-down in the road, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a juvenile from Toms River, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center. A 5-month-old baby in the back seat was not hurt and was also transported as a precaution.

The driver of the Honda Accord, a 28-year-old of Manchester resident, had minor injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 36-year-old Manchester resident, was not injured, police said.

Police closed the roadway during the cleanup and investigation. The crash appears to have been caused by the Chevrolet driver failing to stop at the sign, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by Ptl. Sage Sysol of the department’s Traffic Safety Section
