11-Foot Shark Pings Off Jersey Shore, Long Island A massive white shark named Dold was tracked just off the coast of New Jersey and Long Island on Friday, June 20, according to the latest OCEARCH data. At 11:41 a.m., Dold, an 11-foot, 2-inch, 761-pound male, pinged east of Sandy Hook, about halfway between the Garden State and Montauk, based on satellite maps. OCEARCH Dold was tagged on Feb. 28, roughly 45 miles off the Florida-Georgia border, as part of the OCEARCH Western North Atlantic White Shark Study. The biggest great white shark ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean is heading north after disappearing off the radar for a few weeks. Nicknamed Contender, the 14-foot, 1,653-pound mature male was just pinged off Pamlico Sound in North Carolina, suggesting a potential migration north, according to Ocearch global shark tracker. Massive White Shark Hangs Out Off NJ Coast Days After Another Pinged Nearby Two enormous sharks have been swimming off New Jersey's coast in recent days. Anne Bonney, a 9-foot-3-inch, 425-pound white shark tagged by the nonprofit OCEARCH, was detected off the coast of Brick and Toms River early Thursday, Nov. 14, at approximately 12:10 a.m. She resurfaced the following morning, pinging again around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. Another massive shark, Scot, was tracked in the Hudson Canyon on Nov. 6 and 7.
