On Friday, Aug. 22, Anthony Alvear pulled in front of a pair of bicyclists in his dark blue Kia SUV, exited the vehicle and began shouting at them before he struck the bicyclist with a closed fist while he remained on his bicycle, Belmar police said. The bicyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, having sustained a broken jaw, requiring surgery, police said. Alvear is charged with aggravated assault and was issued a summons for a noise violation, police said.

Potential Airbag, Seat Belt Failures Prompt Recall Of 80K+ Kia SUVs Kia is recalling more than 80,000 hybrid and electric SUVs due to wiring issues that could prevent airbags and seat belts from properly deploying, officials said. Kia issued the recall for about 80,255 Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The recalled Niros are from the model years 2023 to 2025. The NHTSA said the recall is due to a defect in the floor wiring assembly beneath the front passenger seat.
