Schools in Deptford and Woodbury were closed on Monday, Sept. 9 due to the threats, which turned out to be unfounded.
"A multi-jurisdictional investigation was immediately conducted and, as a result, all subjects responsible were identified and taken into custody, including one juvenile from Woodbury, one juvenile from Glassboro, and a 15-year-old juvenile from Mullica Hill," Harrison Township police said on Facebook.
"At this time, there is no known threat to our schools; however, there will be an added police presence throughout the day to ensure that all parents, students and school employees can attend without cause for worry," Harrison police said.
The threats came less than a week after a shooting at a Georgia school that left two students and two teachers dead. A 14-year-old student was identified as the suspected gunman.
"We were made aware of several social media posts referencing threats to several schools throughout the area, including anything within a short distance from Kingsway High School in Harrison Township," Harrison police said.
Woodbury Superintendent Mr. Andrew T Bell Sr. on Sunday, Sept. 8 said the threat was not believed to have been credible, however, district officials are exercising "extreme caution. "
"We are working closely with the Woodbury City Police and Chief Ryan to allow them the time needed to investigate and track the source of this threat thoroughly, and again, there is no immediate indication that the threat is valid," Bell said, noting after-school activities are also canceled.
Deptford police on Sunday, Sept. 8 said that "the post also mentioned numerous other schools in Gloucester and Camden counties. . ."
"We take every threat seriously and we will be diligently working to identify and charge whomever is responsible for this post. You will notice an increased police presence around the schools tomorrow and the rest of the week," Deptford police said on Facebook.
