Driver Who Sped Away From Trooper Crashes, Suffers Serious Injuries On NJ Turnpike (Update)
A 49-year-old man from New York who was stopped in the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike was seriously injured when he suddenly sped away from the trooper checking on him, hitting another vehicle Sunday morning, May 14, authorities said.
The man was stopped in a Honda Accord on the shoulder near milepost 54.2 in Bordentown, when a trooper came over to check on him around 10:35 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry said.
Suddenly, the Accord sped off, crossing from the outer roadway to the inner roadway, striking the passenger side of a Honda Odyssey, police said.

State Police ID Men Killed In Mercer County Crash Where Watermelons Were Strewn On NJ Turnpike
State Police have identified the two men killed in last week's tractor-trailer crash in which watermelons were strewn across the New Jersey Turnpike in Mercer County.
Malcom Cope, 55, of Douglas, Georgia, and Van Huston, 56, of Jamaica, New York, were pronounced dead after the northbound truck veered off the turnpike, struck a guard rail and slammed into a concrete bridge support near milepost 60.3, state troopers said.
Cope was the driver and Huston was a passenger.
