19-Year-Old Driver Killed After Car Strikes Tree In South Jersey A 19-year-old man from Cumberland County was killed after his car veered off the roadway and struck a tree, authorities said. Jorge Soriano-Castelan, of Bridgeton, was driving south on Route 55 near Weymouth Road in Vineland at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, when the crash occurred, according to New Jersey State Police. Soriano-Castelan lost control of his Infinity and struck a tree, State Police said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Chicken Waste Spill Causes HazMat Situation Along South Jersey Highway A trailer hauling chicken waste products crashed, spilling its contents all over Route 55 and causing a HazMat situation in Gloucester County on Monday, Feb. 27. The northbound side of the roadway was closed in Deptford from mile marker 59.2 to the Route 42 interchange following the 9 a.m. crash. The roadway had reopened as of 1:45 p.m., but crews were still on scene for cleanup. HazMat crews, the New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, and multiple fire departments were on scene.  Environmental services were notified and were monitoring the incident. No injuries were reported.

Falls Sr. of Upper Darby in Delaware County was driving north on Route 55 at milepost 41.2 in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, at 7:18 a.m. Sunday when his Chevy ran off the road, according to New Jersey State Police. The Chevy went up an embankment and struck a tree, Sgt. Alejandro Goez said. Falls was pronounced dead at the crash scene, he said.
