High Winds Wreak Havoc In NJ Leaving Roads Closed, Hundreds Without Power Wind gusts up to 50 mph were wreaking havoc across New Jersey on Friday, Aug. 9. As of 2:30 p.m., thousands of residents were without power and multiple roadways were closed due to downed wires and related crashes. The National Weather Service also issued a new tornado watch across North Jersey. An earlier watch for South Jersey and much of Pennsylvania has been lifted. Driver Hospitalized After Smashing Into Roadway Service Vehicle In Mercer County A 23-year-old driver was hospitalized after she crashed into an unoccupied roadway service vehicle along Route 29 in Mercer County, authorities said. Majanae Burke, of Bordentown, was driving northbound in a Honda Civic near milepost 0.7 in Hamilton at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 28 when she veered off the highway and struck a guardrail before rear-ending the Ford F350 pickup, New Jersey State Police said. The woman suffered serious injuries.  No one else was hurt., State Police said.

Philadelphia residents Jorge Mercado-Torres, 28, and Christopher Seabrook, 47, were taken into custody Monday and charged with first-degree narcotics offenses and second-degree weapons offenses, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. The Freightliner M2 was heading south on Route 29 when it struck the back of a Chevrolet GMT-400 that was stopped in the right shoulder near milepost 0.6 in Hamilton Township around 12:45 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said. Cherrelle Cooper of Morris Plains then was chased by law through Hopewell Township before being taken into custody. Trenton police said. At 5:41 p.m. Saturday, Cooper is accused of stealing an idle police cruiser parked on East State Street, police said. Trenton Man Struck, Killed By 2 Vehicles On Route 29 A 51-year-old Trenton man died when he was struck by two vehicles on Route 29, authorities said. Authorities were called to Route 29 northbound and Hermitage Avenue, where Marcus Drury had been struck around 8:30 p.m. April 3, Trenton Police Det. Capt. Peter Weremijenko said.
