Wheelman Admits Role In Carjacking Of Montclair Woman In Her Driveway: Feds
An Essex County man admitted his role in carjacking a Montclair woman at gunpoint in her driveway, federal authorities said. Andy Cook, 24, of Newark was with an armed man who pointed a gun at the victim, ordered her to leave her purse, phone and keys behind and get out of her 2021 Porsche Cayenne on Melrose Place in the township's Estate section on Dec. 6, 2021, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said. Cook then got behind the wheel and drove off, he said. Essex County sheriff's officers spotted the Porsche on Route 280 in East Orange a short time later and pursued it. : NJ AG Releases Video Of Foot Pursuit, Arrest Of Newark Man Who Died Soon After
It’s unsettling to watch video of a suspect you know has died. The last moments for Raul DeJesus -- who led Newark police on a foot chase before collapsing near Route 280 two months ago -- are no exception. A series of videos showing the encounter that preceded DeJesus’s death at University Hospital in Newark were released by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin’s office on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Three of the videos come from police body cameras, one of them worn by the officer who began chasing the 43-year-old Newark native on foot after he ran. Two others graphically document the ar…

Fugitive Dubbed 'Real-Life Tony Soprano' Couldn't Hide From The Law, Even In Death
He was considered one of the last of the old-time mobsters, a "real-life Tony Soprano" listed as one of New Jersey's most wanted fugitives. Even six feet under, though, Tony Mota couldn't evade his pursuers. After eluding capture for nearly 25 years for a gruesome murder committed in Hudson County, Anthony Mota was found buried in the country where he was born, the Dominican Republic. Mota had been collecting debts for high-level Colombian drug dealers in New York City when he and a group of accomplices abducted a Queens man on Dec. 13, 1997, authorities said. The victim, 38-year-old …

Seven Youths Nabbed In Series Of Clifton Car Thefts, Multi-County Pursuit, Crash
A Clifton police officer dove into a moving car after the teenager who stole it bailed out during one in a series of incidents involving out-of-town car thieves -- one of whom is only 14. Six of them were captured following a pursuit and crash involving another stolen vehicle and a Clifton police car later that day, Lt. Robert Bracken said. Officers interrupted the theft of a 2017 Mazda on Chittendon Road around 3 a.m. Monday, Bracken said. The thief hopped out of the car while it was still moving, forcing an officer to dive in to keep it from damaging nearby property, he said. The teen a…

: Police Capture Essex Murder Suspect From North Carolina On Roof Of Route 46 Hotel
An ex-con from North Carolina wanted in an Essex County homicide was captured on the roof of a Route 46 hotel in Wayne before dawn Tuesday, multiple law enforcement sources told Daily Voice. The search began after Derrick Anthony Younger, 28, ran from a Route 46 traffic stop near Route 23 around midnight. Wayne Police Officer Wayne Bush, who stopped Younger, chased him on foot to the Ramada Inn. A Passaic County Sheriff's SWAT unit was summoned in case of a possible standoff. Although authorities believed Younger was in Room 228, he'd actually gone to the roof. After a SWAT robot found t…
