Robber Blasts Motorcyclist, Rescuers With Bear Spray, Caught By Hasbrouck Heights Police
An ex-con was captured by Hasbrouck Heights police after he blasted a motorcyclist and two good Samaritans with bear spray in a violent robbery attempt, authorities said. The concerned citizens came running after seeing Jared Stun knock the motorcyclist to the ground in an attempt to steal his bike outside Cycle Gear on southbound Route 17 shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Police Sgt. John Behr said. Stun, a 44-year-old habitual criminal, blasted both of them and the motorcyclist with the aerosol bear deterrent before the good Samaritans pulled him off the victim, Behr said. A stolen luxury SUV that rolled as a good Samaritan chased it had been stolen moments earlier by two teens who'd broken into the owner's Paramus home, authorities said. An auto detailer who was working at the Hasse Avenue home at the time chased the Newark pair Friday afternoon as they sped off in the 2020 X-5, which had been taken from the garage after the pair entered the house and apparently found the keys. A 56-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter were found dead Monday, June 20, in the elder woman's East Rutherford home down the block from the borough police station. A man said to have been the former spouse of the property owner apparently found the bodies of Nancy Marie Jocks and her daughter, Alexis O'Boyle of Woodland Park, in the rented unit off southbound Route 17 just past Route 120, barely two miles from MetLife Stadium. Bergen County Authorities Seek Family Of Man Killed More Than 40 Years Ago
Authorities in Bergen County are hoping the public can help them locate the family of a man who was struck and killed on Route 17 in Hackensack more than 40 years ago but was only recently identified. Eugene Mack Jr. was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center on February 22, 1978. The Bergen County Medical Examiner was unable to identify the body and the case was registered in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
