Serial Atlantic City Arsonist Set 3rd Fire In 11 Months: Prosecutor
A 57-year-old convicted arsonist was ordered detained after another arson in Atlantic City, authorities announced Wednesday, June 10.
On Monday, June 1, Atlantic City police responded to reports George Jones, a Halfmoon resident, had set several fires at and within the city's Korean War Memorial, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
Officers located Jones standing over one fire and located another nearby, authorities said. This is the third fire Jones has set in Atlantic City in less than a year, authorities said.

Michele Nycz, 60, and Aimee Lonczak, 51, were sentenced on Friday, Aug. 16 to 364 days in Ocean County Jail, county prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a news release. A New Jersey man who admitted to sexually assaulting a woman passenger seated next to him on a United Airlines flight has been sentenced to six months of home confinement, authorities said.
Piyush Mathew, 31, of Robbinsville Township, must also serve five years of probation and register as a sex offender, the U.S. Attorney's Office said on Thursday, Aug. 1.

A 49-year-old man on probation in South Jersey has admitted to cyberstalking an assault victim, authorities said.
John LeVance, of Absecon, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Sept. 20 to the charges of stalking as a repeat offender, cyber harassment, contempt of a court order and invasion of privacy, according the the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
LeVance had been detained since January after his arrest for stalking the victim since June 2022, the prosecutor said.
