Schools across New Jersey were delayed or closed Wednesday morning, Jan. 10 due to impacts from the storm that left much of the state under water. Thousands of residents were without power and several inches of rain fell overnight. Toxic Pollution Concerns Rekindled By 'Canonball 2' Wildfire On DuPont Site
UPDATE: A blaze that burned through much of the weekend in the Ramapo Mountains wasn't the usual run-of-the-mill forest fire. The fire, which continued to smolder late Saturday afternoon well into Sunday, was on a notorious 570-acre expanse of property in Pompton Lakes considered one of New Jersey's most polluted. Toxic substances that were dumped from what was a munitions plant on the DuPont site from 1902 to 1994 leached into the groundwater, creating an underground vapor of cancer-causing solvents.
