National Guard: Afghan Refugees Arrive In NJ With Up To 9,500 Total Expected
The first group of Afghan refugees arrived in New Jersey overnight, NJ Advance Media reports. New Jersey National Guard Capt. Christopher Bowyer-Meeder confirmed the arrival with the news outlet Wednesday. It was not clear exactly how many people were in the group that arrived at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. A press release on the NJ National Guard website proposes the base serve as temporary shelter for as many as 9,500 refugees. Those individuals have visas good for 365 days. NJ Native, Capitol Officer Brian Sicknick Died Of Natural Causes -- Not Riot Injuries, ME Says
New Jersey native and U.S. Capitol Officer Brian Sicknick who was injured in last January's Capitol riots died of natural causes following a pair of strokes -- not injuries sustained in the riot, the DC medical examiner told the Washington Post. Sicknick, 42, originally of New Brunswick, had bear spray discharged in his face by protestors and later collapsed after returning to his office. He died eight hours later. New Jersey's first field medical center is going up in Secaucus. The hospital coming to the Meadowlands Expo Center will have approximately 250 beds and will pull non-coronavirus patients from hospitals, NJ National Guard First Lt. Matt Finlay said.
