After 5,200+ People Left In The Cold And Dark, Power Restored To South Jersey Community An overloaded power grid failed under the strain of freezing temperatures, knocking out power for more than 5,000 people in Whiting two days before Christmas, authorities said. Nearly 6,000 customers lost electricity on Monday, Dec. 23, and the vast majority were in Manchester Township. The outages began around 8 a.m. as daytime temperatures hovered at 23 degrees and plunged to the low teens overnight. Manchester Det. Richard Jupinka was on-duty grabbing lunch at Café Napoli when he noticed the young girl was choking on July 14.  Realizing the girl's life was in danger, Jupinka went over the to girl's table as her uncle unsuccessfully attempted the Heimlich maneuver, police said. John T. Mullen, Jr., 51, of Seaside Heights pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter on Wednesday, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. Mullen tried to steal Xanax from a 33-year-old Manchester man during a failed drug deal, authorities said.  Thomas J.
