Three Jersey Shore public high schools were recognized among the 100 best in the U.S., according to an education data website. Niche has released its 2025 Best Public High Schools in America list. The website said its rankings are based on "rigorous analysis of key statistics," U.S. Department of Education data, and millions of reviews from students and parents. A grand jury indicted three men accused of plotting to shoot and kill another man in Jackson Township, authorities said. Man Killed While Walking Across Route 9 In Central Jersey, Prosecutors Say
A man was hit by a vehicle and killed while crossing a busy road in Freehold Township, authorities said. The crash happened at around 8:56 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, a spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said. A former Monmouth County gas station attendant was accused of stealing thousands of dollars from customers, authorities said. One New Jersey school district is closed and another delayed Monday, Jan. 29 due to electrical and cybersecurity issues. All Freehold Township schools are closed due to a "cybersecurity event," Dr. Dianne Martello Brethauer, the assistant Freehold schools superintendent, said on X. Brethauer did not elaborate. A 34-year-old swimmer visiting from Guyana — or the "Land of Many Waters" — was struck and killed by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in Freehold Township, authorities said. Robert Taylor was struck by a southbound driver on Route 9 at Schibanoff Lane on Monday, Jan. 9 around 7 a.m., according to authorities and those who knew Taylor. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Taylor was a mentor with the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association.
