The heat is going to ramp up before summer winds down in the Northeast.
Heat advisories, warnings, and watches are in place this week across New Jersey and Pennsylvania as temperatures climb up to the high 90s, even feeling close to 100 degrees in some places, AccuWeather and the National Weather Service report.
Tuesday, Aug. 27 is sunny with a high of 89 while Wednesday, Aug. 28 will be as hot as 97 degrees, the NWS said. According to AccuWeather, Real Feel temps could creep into the 90s on Tuesday, and up to 105 Wednesday.

A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service across much of New Jersey ahead of drizzles expected to turn into downpours.
Between 1 and 3 inches of rain is expected with both showers and thunderstorms producing heavy downpours Friday afternoon, July 12 through Saturday afternoon, July 13, the National Weather Service said.
Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex Gloucester Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Union, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren, are all under a flood watch.

An air quality alert has been issued for several areas across New Jersey and Pennsylvania through late Friday, June 14.
The most serious alert, an Air Quality Action Day, has been issued from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. across Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union counties.
An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

A married teacher had intercourse as part of a years-long sexual relationship with a former Garfield Middle School student beginning when the youngster was 15, including several times in a car -- and even at the school, authorities charged.
Amy Impero D'Ovidio, a 46-year-old Bergen County native, had worked for the Garfield Board of Education when the alleged encounters began, they said.

Six Inches Of Snow Could Slam Parts Of NJ, PA: Latest Forecast, Timing Updates
Newly-released forecast maps from the National Weather Service show up to six inches of snow could fall across eastern Pennsylvania and much of New Jersey.
Accumulating snowfall will begin Monday, night Jan. 15, mainly after 7 p.m., and carry into Tuesday morning, Jan. 16, impacting the morning commute as it changes over to a wintry mix, the NWS said in its latest briefing.

A flood watch is in effect across 18 of New Jersey's counties as thunderstorms with the possibility of a tornado moves in, the National Weather Service said.
The flood watch is in effect until Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, in the following counties, according to the NWS:

Armed Robber Admits Role In Multiple Liquor, Convenience Store Holdups In NJ, NY
UPDATE: A member of a New Jersey-based armed robbery crew copped to holding up five liquor and convenience stores in two states, federal authorities said.
Jaime Fontanez, 45, of Elizabeth and two accomplices went on a six-month armed robbery spree beginning in August 2018, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said.
Federal authorities tied the crew to 13 holdups in all in Essex, Union and Middlesex counties, as well as in the Bronx and upstate New York, the U.S. attorney said.

COVID-19 cases are surging in New Jersey as the state reports 17 deaths and 4,782 confirmed cases of the virus -- the highest number of positive tests in one day since January, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard.

Brace For Isolated Twisters, Flash Flooding Across NJ, Forecasters Say
Up to three inches of rain, flash flooding and damaging winds were expected Thursday across New Jersey.
A flash flood watch was in effect for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties Thursday morning into Friday.
Severe thunderstorms with potential for isolated twisters were also possible, the National Weather Service says.
The main threat was expected midday Thursday into the early overnight hours, the NWS says.
Storms were, however, expected to move out quickly Friday.
'No Questions Asked': NJ Buys Back Nearly 1,000 Guns
Authorities collected nearly 1,000 guns during no-questions-asked gun buybacks in Passaic, Essex and Atlantic counties, New Jersey’s top law enforcer said Thursday. They could soon be coming to a location near you.
The firearms came in all sizes, calibers, makes, models and ages, from a pearl-handled derringer to a reported 27 assault weapons.
The total also includes 487 handguns, 281 rifles and shotguns and 146 inoperable weapons and BB/pellet guns, New Jersey Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said.
