Bones Found On NJ Beaches ID’d As Shipwreck Captain, Case Cracked By College Students Skeletal remains that washed up on South Jersey beaches over nearly two decades have been identified as the captain of a 19th-century schooner, law enforcement announced. The remains, found between 1995 and 2013 in Atlantic and Cape May counties, were confirmed to belong to 29-year-old Henry Goodsell, who died in a shipwreck off the Brigantine coast in 1844. The identification was made by the New Jersey State Police in partnership with the Ramapo College of New Jersey Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center (IGG). A skull was first found in Longport in 1995. More bones turned up in Margate …

Foot Found Near River ID'd As Missing PA Woman Thanks To NJ College Students A foot found along the Delaware River in 2017 has finally been identified, thanks to student researchers at a New Jersey college. The remains belonged to Maria Quinones Garcia, who was 54 years old when she went missing from her home in Allentown, PA, in 2014, according to a release from the Ramapo College Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) Center in Mahwah.  The students used a DNA profile created from bone remains found in Warren County, NJ, and traced the mystery back to Garcia using genetic genealogy. DNA, Fingerprints From 1996 Led To Sexual Assault Arrest, Atlantic County Prosecutor Says DNA and fingerprints dating back to 1996 and 2003 have led to an arrest in two sexual assault cases, authorities said. Brian Lee Avis, 59, has been indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury for the sexual assaults of a 10-year-old Brigantine girl in 1996, and a 5-year-old girl in Galloway Township in 2003, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said, The eight-count indictment includes charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13, endangering and burglary, Shill said.  The charges against Avis came after Galloway Township Police Det.
