A former Atlantic County elections official is sentenced after pleading guilty to a kickback scheme nearly seven years ago, authorities said. Michael Gibbons, 38, of Glendora was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 12 to four years probation, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Monday, Jan. 22. The conditions of Gibbons' probation require him to spend 364 days in Atlantic County Jail, which can be served by day reporting. A 33-year-old man was charged with trying to kill a 52-year-old woman in South Jersey on Christmas. Reports of a woman screaming brought police to N. Franklin and W. Arbor Avenue in Buena Borough just after midnight on Monday, Dec. 25, Franklin Township police said. A South Jersey man was sentenced to one year behind bars for killing a four-month-old Pitbull puppy. Kyle Blythe, 24, of Linwood was sentenced on Wednesday, Aug. 24 to 364 days in the Atlantic County Jail and five years of probation, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Blythe was arrested and charged with animal cruelty following an investigation by Linwood police in December of 2020. Handguns, Drugs Seized In South Jersey Traffic Stop
A traffic stop resulted in the recovery of two handguns, ammunition and drugs in South Jersey, authorities said. On Saturday, Aug. 13, at 11:36 p.m, Pleasantville Police Officer Michael Mabkhouti located a stolen vehicle unoccupied on Lafayette Circle. While investigating the stolen vehicle, another vehicle was believed to be in the area to recover the stolen car. The vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. A 19-year-old man from Philadelphia was arrested while fleeing an armed robbery at a Sunoco station in South Jersey, authorities said. Lamar Morrison was captured by Egg Harbor Township police at the Fire Road Apartments, police said. Morrison allegedly held up the gas station on Fire Road in the Farmington section of town at 5:35 p.m, Tuesday, police said. New Jersey's attorney general released surveillance video Friday of an incident involving a 41-year-old Atlantic County Jail inmate who later died after being taken to a local hospital.
