Firefighters and police responded to a fire in a music and artroom before the start of school Thursday at Parkway Elementary School on Ramblewood Parkway, according to Mount Laurel police. Daycare staff and students were in the building but were evacuated safely, school officials said.
Students arriving at the school remained outside the building.
There were no injuries. The fire was quickly brought under control, police and school officials said.
Elementary school students were transported to the Thomas E. Harrington Middle School where alternative activities and lunch were provided.
"The Emergency Responders, Fire Department, and Police Department response time was outstanding and they secured the building and campus so our students and staff remained safe," the school district said in a statement.
