Man Charged In Fatal Newark Hit-and-Run: Prosecutor
A 49-year-old Newark is facing charges after fatally striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene on Friday, May 31, authorities said. At 3 a.m., a vehicle driven by Ruben Dominguez struck and killed Mario Calvache, 34, at Wilson Avenue and Hensler Street, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. A 30-year-old Newark woman whose 5-year-old son shot and killed his 4-year-old brother, has been convicted in the 2022 murder of a man, authorities said. Itiyanah Spruill was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the fatal shooting of Lance Sally, Jr. in Nov. 2022, following a two-week trial, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. Spruill lured Sally to the location where he was shot by an unidentified individual and drove the vehicle used in the homicide, Stephens said. Man Shot In Newark: Police
A man was shot in Newark on the evening of Saturday, June 16, authorities said. At 7:33 p.m., officers responded to Van Vechten Street near Hanford Street and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The man was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition, Fragé said. The shooting remains under investigation.

Victim ID'd In Fatal Newark Shooting In Park: Prosecutor
A 25-year-old Newark resident has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting on Thursday June 13, authorities said. At 9 p.m., Newark police responded to Boys Park at Sussex Avenue and Duryea Street and located Raymeer Tarver suffering from gunshot wounds near a basketball court in the park, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said. Tarver was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead soon after, Stephens and Frage said. The investigation is active and ongoing, Stephens and Frage said.

A 49-year-old former Newark resident was convicted on Wednesday, June 12, in a 2009 Newark homicide after he spent 11 years on the run, authorities said. In May 2009, Cesar Campos and his conspirators killed Ricky Lauracuent using a knife outside the Pink Cat Lounge, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. At 6:52 p.m., Eduardo Rodriguez shot Christopher Griffin, 36, in the face in broad daylight in front of a crowd of people on the 300 block of Mount Prospect Avenue, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens said. Kamisha Austin was last seen on the 100 block of 12th Avenue wearing a black T-shirt, blue jean shorts, and black sneakers, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said, She is 5'3" and 160 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair.
