Man In Makeshift Shelter Found Dead In Jersey City Fire: Prosecutor
A man was killed in a fire in Jersey City on Friday, Jan. 31, authorities said. At 6 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to a fire at the 1000 block of Newark Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. After quickly extinguishing the fire, firefighters found an unidentified male in a fire damaged makeshift shelter and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Suarez said. The cause and manner of death are pending, Suarez said. The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating the origin and cause of the fire, Suarez said.

A 49-year-old Cliffwood man was found floating in the Hackensack River on Tuesday, Jan. 28, authorities said. At 4:30 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a body floating underneath the Pulaski Skyway and Bryan Linington was found floating in the water, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Linington was removed from the water by the Jersey City Fire Department and pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. : Three Dead Including Two Children In Jersey City, Mayor Says
Three people, including two children, were killed in a domestic violence incident in Jersey City on Wednesday, Jan. 29, authorities said. A woman and two children, 9 and 5, were killed by a man who then tried to stab himself at a residence on Hutton Street, Mayor Steve Fulop and the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said. The man is in custody, Fulop said. Chaplains and social workers have been deployed to the neighborhood to work with family and neighbors, Fulop said. A 37-year-old West New York man was found guilty of murder in the first degree on Monday, Jan. 27 after beating his mother to death in 2021, authorities said. New York Resident Sexually Assaulted 11-Year-Old In Jersey City: Prosecutor
An 18-year-old New York man was arrested and charged on Tuesday, Dec. 3, with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Jersey City, authorities said. Sergio Lokhanova-Flores met the victim online in February 2024, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The crimes occurred on various dates between March and July 2024 when the victim was 11 and 12 years old, Suarez said. Lokhanova-Flores was arrested in Brooklyn and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey, Suarez said. Man Critically Injured In Bayonne Fire: Prosecutor
A man was critically injured in a fire in Bayonne on the late afternoon of Monday, Sept. 16, authorities said. At 5:20 p.m., the Bayonne Fire Department responded to 167 West 9th St. after receiving multiple reports of a fire, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The fire was discovered in the basement, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said. The fire was declared under control at 5:46 p.m., OEM said.
