Gov. Murphy Picks Menendez Replacement: Report George Helmy is expected to be named New Jersey's next senator, replacing Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ, Politico reported. Gov. Phil Murphy will be appointing his former chief of staff, a Jersey City native, to serve as a temporary replacement for Menendez, who resigned after being convicted of numerous felonies in a federal corruption trial.  Helmy previously served as Murphy's chief of staff and was also a former aide to New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. Toms River Driver, 84, Suffers 'Medical Emergency,' Knocks Down Utility Pole: Police An elderly Toms River man was hospitalized after crashing into a utility pole in Ocean County, authorities said. The 84-year-old man was driving at the intersection of Route 70 and Center Street at around 12:16 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, the Lakehurst Police Department said in a news release. He suffered a "medical emergency" and lost control of his vehicle, knocking down a utility pole. Paramedics brought the man to Community Medical Center for treatment. Dive Teams Pull Victim From NJ Pond In 2nd Possible Drowning In 12 Hours Less than 12 hours after responding to a drowning a Crystal Lake, dive teams and emergency responders from across Ocean County were called to a similar incident. This time, in one of the ponds off of Whitesbog Road in Manchester Township, responders said. According to the Whiting Fire Department, dive teams responded to the scene just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, on reports of a victim submerged in one of the ponds.
